Your first job is one of your most important job experience that can help you to find a better one in the future. You may only be 16 when that first job comes around - but how you do in it and what you do will give you either a good or bad reputation.

First thing you need to remember is to work hard. There will be days that you are tired or you just don’t feel in the mood to work at all. This is when you need to push yourself and tell yourself that you need the money for your first car or for college or even to do fun things with your family.

Having a good work ethic is important in any job you have. Whether you are flipping burgers or answering phones it is the one thing that will get you noticed. With a good work ethic you will find that you can go farther in your job then anyone - which will help you to work towards the job you want.

Usually when we hear the word bully we think of children at school and how other kids might be picking on them and teasing them. However, it doesn’t matter age you are because there will always be bullies to deal with in your life. When it comes to the bullies that we face at work it can be a little more complicated to deal with.

Both men and women can be the bully and can be bullied -but you will find that 80% of the victims are women. Unfortunately bullies in the work place is more common then most people realize and they can be your co-worker to your boss.

This can have a toll on your health and it can cause depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress syndromes. Workplace bullying is two times more prevalent than sexual harassment,” says Gary Namie, Ph.D., research director and president of the Workplace Bullying and Trauma Institute in Washington State.

In order to put a stop to things you first need to confront the bully. This is going to be hard and you might need to muster up a lot of courage for this - but you need to tell them (in a nice tone) that they need to back off and let you do your job. It may not work - but it is always a good effort to try.

If that doesn’t work, you may have to go to Human Resources or Management and expose the problem. Let them know that it is affecting both yours and the Bully’s work. Research your options; maybe take a few days off. Review other ways of dealing with it, such as internal company policies or legal actions that can be taken.

There are some days where we just don’t feel like going into work. Peraphs it is a beautiful day outside and you decide that you’d rather be tanning at the beach. Or your favorite movie just came out and you want to see it. These are the times when you have to decide when it is ok for you to call in and miss work and when it is not.

1. I Deserve It.

If you perform well at your job 100% of the time and are well liked then you might just get what you need. Those who are willing to stay late or come in early when needed are respected and more likely to negotiate a day off when needed.

2. Playing Golf With A Client.

You can only use this one if you’ve got to have a job that requires you to meet and court current and prospective clients. Neil Simpkins, an account executive at Oxford Communications, has used this one successfully. One note of caution: Meet the client; don’t just say you did.

3. Doctor’s Appointment.

This excuse will get you out of work for a half-day or so. Make the appointment first thing in the morning or late in the day, say around 3 p.m. You can leave the office by 2:30 p.m. and get home (hopefully) by 4 p.m. The shortened day will help you recharge, especially if you schedule it on a Friday afternoon.

4. I Have Cramps.

Before you dismiss this one, think about it: Who can argue? “It’s such an embarrassing topic that nobody will ever challenge it,” says Jennifer Newman, vice president of Lippe Taylor Public Relations. She has used this excuse — and had it used on her — successfully. “It’s one of those things that men honestly have no clue about, and women can sympathize with.” One important point: Don’t use this one if you’re a man. It’ll never work.

5. Working from Home.

This is an excellent way to give yourself a break if your company allows it. Although you’ll need to do some work, you can generally get away with a shortened day.

According to the recent enrollment numbers accounting is becoming one of the more popular and high-demand careers. The American Institute of CPA’s stated that over 64,000 students graduated with master’s and bachelor’s degrees in accounting in the school year for 2006-2007. This is the largest amount of accounting graduates for 36 years.

“Accounting is a very stable and well-anchored career path,” says Denny Reigle, director of academic and career development of the AICPA, a national professional association of CPAs with more than 350,000 CPA members. “The issue is really this: Accounting firms need more accountants than ever directly related to regulation,” says Karen A. Berger, associate dean and director of undergraduate programs at the Lubin School of Business at Pace.

In fact, the already stable profession increased in demand thanks to the passage of the Sarbanes Oxley Act, also known as Sox. This legislation was passed in 2002 in order to reduce and eliminate abuses in financial reports, accounting and transactions, and other activities that have damaged credibility in the field. For instance, CEOs and CFOs must sign statements confirming their review and judgments that the financial statements are accurate.

Another factor contributing to the appeal of accounting, says Queen-Hubert, is a focus on recruiting students on campus. “Accounting firms recruit heavily from college campuses and have been trying to jazz up their image. They have worked hard at trying to attract younger students with sophomore summer leadership programs, internships for juniors, and job offers before students hit their senior year. The image of a boring bean-counter is no longer what firms are projecting.”

As students meet recruiters on campus and learn more about opportunities, they may also learn about the variety of paths to pursue. Reigle notes that once you earn your accounting degree, the sky’s the limit. “Within the accounting discipline, there are an increasing number of specialties such as personal financial planning and risk assessment.”

Those who are looking to become doctors must firs understand that this requires a lot of time to research and study and it is not one of the easiest careers to pursue. You will spend many years in college and you must work hard to get the right grades and to understand everything.

Here are some important things to remember and to keep in mind when thinking about becoming a doctor.

1. Be prepared to put in a lot of time. Because if you’re not passionate about being a doctor then you can forget about it, you also have to study hard or you’ll fail on the MCAT, a test to get into medical school, where you receive your MD. Becoming a doctor requires more training than most other jobs. It usually takes at least 11 years to become a doctor: 4 years of college, 4 years of medical school, and 3 years working in a hospital (residency training). For some specialties, doctors may have to work in a hospital residency position for up to 8 years before they can practice.

2. Start early. In high school, study a lot of science including biology, chemistry, and physics. Math courses including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus are also useful. English is also essential in becoming a doctor. Volunteering at a local hospital or doctor’s office will help to start recognizing medicine and diseases.

3. Keep on task. In college, maintain a high grade point average. The competition for medical school is intense. Students in college must study a lot of science, including organic and inorganic chemistry, math, English. Studying humanities and social sciences in college are also useful.

4. Take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT).

5. Apply to Medical Schools. Submit applications with MCAT results and college courses. Hopefully, you get in where you want to.

6. Complete medical school. You’ll spend your first two years studying lots of science courses. You’ll also learn to take medical histories, examine patients, and diagnose illnesses. In your last two years, students work with patients under the supervision of experienced physicians in hospitals and clinics, learning acute, chronic, preventive, and rehabilitative care, as well as the social skills that give a doctor good bedside manner.

7. Enter your residency training period in a hospital setting in which you earn a salary while you are trained. Residency typically lasts about three years. Some specialties may require as much as eight years of residency training before they are licensed to practice.

If you still decide to pursue then you should be proud of yourself and know that you are going into a field where you can have the chance to save people every day. You are also pursuing a career that could prove to pay very well.

Many people have noticed that there are a few things still in life that are different when it comes to men and women. According to a study by the National Committee on Pay Equity in the United States in 2006 women earned 25% less than men working the same job and having the same qualifications. This number has not changed within the last decade and is not expected to change till 2057.

Many of us believed that this issue had already been dealt with and that women would not have to worry about things like this. However, it seems that women still have to work twice as hard to make the kind of money that they deserve.

The good thing is though that woman do have more job opportunities than most men. Below are a list of some of the more popular and high paying jobs that women can look for.

- Personal Financial Advisor

This job allows for a great deal of independence. Over one-third of personal financial advisors are self-employed and have the ability to set their own hours. They can also decide how many clients they want. Women are great for this job because they have excellent communication skills. In order to qualify for this job you need to have your bachelor’s degree in business finance.

- Psychologist/Therapist

A career in psychology offers the opportunity to help people find solutions for their emotional issues. Areas of specialization include industrial, clinical, and school psychology. School psychologists work with educators, administrators, and parents to provide a nurturing learning environment for children. They may help students with learning disabilities, behavioral issues, or emotional problems. The schedule usually allows for the same time off as the students and teachers. Because 34 percent of psychologists are self-employed, this career offers flexibility as well. A doctoral degree is usually required to practice psychology at a school, but licensing requirements differ by state. Many family therapists practice with a master’s degree, and both the master’s and the doctorate can be earned online.

- Education Administrator

As an education administrator you have the ability to work at different levels. You can be a principal for an elementary school or a dean for a college. You will have the duties of managing the staff and will be the face of the school. This means that you will need interpersonal skills. Most education administrator jobs require a master’s or doctorate degree in education.

There are a few things that you have to keep in mind if you want to run a successful business meeting and you need to know how to prepare ahead of time. First of all you need to make sure that you give all of your employees plenty of heads up so that they can make sure that they are able to clear their schedule. Make sure that you stress to them how important the meeting is.

Make sure that your agenda is solid and you go over it completely before you begin the meeting. Give the participants the opportunity to add more items at the end of the meeting, but let them know that you will be running the meeting and how long you expect it to take. Be in charge, speak with confidence and let people know what is expected of them in a direct and positive way.

There are so many resources that you can use to help put together your presentation. Power point is the best resource to use because it will get the attention of people and will keep up the pace of what people need.

Plan a follow up course of action. This may include another meeting or some individual work that gets fed back to you or your department. Give ample time but stay on schedule with whatever project is driving the goal of the meeting.

You are going to have certain people who will want to control the meeting and what is being talked about. Make sure that you are the one in control at all times. There is nothing wrong with having people participate as long as things do not get off subject.

Being a manager is a very rewarding job - but if not done properly you can mess everything up and cause a problem where you work as well as who you work for. One of the first things you need to learn when you first become a manager is how to tell your employees what to do and how to do their work effeciently.

- When delegating tasks make sure that you don’t simply order them around. Just because you are there boss does not mean that you can’t be civil and respectful. Make them more a request than a demand and they will have more of a desire to do what you ask and to do it well the first time.

- Make sure that you do not favor one person over the other. You are all a team and should all be rewarded equally.

- I know that you’re the boss - but asking their advice every now and then on how to complete a task is going to make them feel more like a team player.

- Explain why you trust the job to a particular person by highlighting his skills. Every employee enjoys a little boost to their ego in the form of appreciation.

- Be clear in your expectations. Fix a time limit in executing the job but try not to micromanage. Follow up and evaluate your employees’ performance to encourage them to take pride in their actions.

Some of us can get quite picky with what we are looking for and that’s when we need to stop and ask ourselves if the jobs we are looking for a realistic for us.

To make sure that you are looking in the right direction you need to go through some of the basic steps in your job search. This means that you need to look in more than just one place. Look on the internet, the classifieds, or even a job recruiter. If they aren’t able to find the job you have specified than this is a sure sign that you are not looking for the job that is right for you. Try scaling down your preferences and set up new goals and preferences that everyone can handle.

The desire to become a lawyer is a great aspiration but it isn’t always an easy career to work towards. Before you decide to do anything you have to make sure that you have the patience to do what is needed of you. You need to know exactly all of the requirements that it takes.

Step One - Obtain a bachelor’s degree from a college or university. This needs to be a four-year degree; an associates degree is not sufficient for admission into law school. Your particular choice of major does not matter much, at least not for purposes of getting into law school. However, your GPA in school is extremely important in determining whether you will get to move on to a law school.

Step Two - Take the Law School Admissions Test, better known as the LSAT. This is a test that is similar to exams such as the ACT or SAT, but this particular test is geared towards evaluating your potential to perform well in law school. This half-day test contains multiple choice questions as well as essay questions. This test is critically important, and most people serious about going to law school will purchase study materials, take practice tests, and perhaps even take an LSAT prep course to get ready for the exam.

Step Three – Get accepted to law school. Admission to law school will be based almost entirely on your college GPA and your LSAT score, and many law schools have minimum scores you must reach on each before they will even consider your application.

Step Four – Graduate from law school. It takes a minimum of three years to graduate from a full-time law school program; longer if you attend a program that has a part-time option. Law school exams are almost always essay questions, and to do well you have to learn the formula for writing a law school essay. It is not enough to know the information; you have to know the proper format for spitting it back out to the professor who is scanning your answer for the key words and phrases. The students who figure out the system early are the ones who will be on law review.

Step Five – Study for the bar exam. While you might believe that your law school education prepared you for the bar exam, what it really prepared you for was to cram three years of legal education into a few weeks of bar review time. Most law school graduates will take a bar review course to organize their test preparation and to make sure they cover everything they need to know. After all the time and money you have invested in your legal education to this point, investing in a bar review course is a small price to pay for passing the bar on your first attempt.

Step Six – Pass the bar exam for the state in which you want to practice law. The testing protocols and requirements vary from state to state, but most states utilize exam materials provided by the National Council of Bar Examiners. The required tests may include the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE), the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE), the Multistate Essay Examination (MEE), and the Multistate Performance Test (MPT).

Step Seven – Pass the Character and Fitness evaluation. Those who think lawyers have no ethics may be surprised that applicants to the bar in most states must submit to a Character and Fitness Investigation, usually conducted by the National Council of Bar Examiners. This investigation is extensive and intrusive, delving not only into whether you have a criminal record, but also looking at traffic tickets, credit reports, substance abuse issues, and even medical records. The evaluation may be unpleasant to some, but it is a necessary step in order to practice law.
